JIBESET

One of the most feared by some sailors maneuvers, make big gain or big lose .

You are coming to the mark on Starboard layline, falloff at the mark, jibe and set the kite.

After you complete this maneuver you will be sailing on Port jibe your spinnaker pole should be ready on port side, and your spin gear on starboard. You could use starboard halyard, but keep in mind how you are going to douse. Sometimes port halyard could be faster to clean up after douse especially when doused to Windward.
Keep your weight on the rail as long as possible. You may want to set inboard end of spinnaker pole before the mark. One less thing to worry about after you jibe.
So, your kite is connected on starboard, inboard end of the spinnaker pole is up and you are ready to go. Note: Jib can be jibed over the pole (in most cases).

Boat comes to the mark, bears away and jibes.

Jibing!

1. Bow-ready to cross help the outboard end of spinnaker pole.
Mast-ready to hoist
Pit-ready to hoist.

Hoist!

Note:
This is a big job for the pit person as he needs to hoists the spinnaker, and outboard end of spinnaker pole at the same time. Sometimes it is a good idea to have someone else (floater) hoist topping lift.

2. Bow-guide outboard end of spinnaker pole.
Mast-hoist spinnaker halyard.
Pit- Hoist spinnaker halyard and topping lift.

Kite is Up!
Jib down!

3. Bow-controls luff of the jib as it comes down.
Mast-brings the tack of the jib inboard and controls it's douse.
Pit-eases (opens) jib halyard.

Not over yet. Get ready to jibe!
